ISAY Debating Round 4
w00tage!
Okay you probably don’t know what that was about, but here goes:
On the 15th of May, we had our ISAY Debating Round 4. Me, Kelly and Shruti went to challenge the ‘undefeated’ Rutherford Atoms debating group. Their blazers and their attitude gave the impression that they were hardcore. They were =P.
Anywho, it was limited preparation (impromptu) meaning that we had only gotten our moot an hour beforehand. The moot was:
“That sports teams should be punished for their supporters behaviour”
I guess it was a pretty good topic to debate on and being negative, it gave us that boost. Afterall its basically illogical for some sports teams to get punished because of what a few crazy people are doing which the athletes most probably have never heard of.
Well we went into the room to prepare our speech…
1 hour passed
Well I guess with them being in blazers etc they really had a attitude problem. I mean seriously while we were debating they kept talking really loudly. I was like wtf? ‘Excuse me?’
Anywho, at the end of the day, guess who won?
WE DID
Total w00tage. They defined their moot wrong because they talked about how the moot related to everything school-related, and then talked about the influence. I guess that is why they lost.
Do in the end of the day, Shruti was best speaker. She has really good rebuttal. I mean she totally shut the team down etc. Be being me, was just average joe. Anywho overall we won. We are now in the finals and we overcame the odds. We have been undefeated for 4 rounds.
Then again I shouldn’t be to proud of myself since anything could change and its the whole team tha succeeded in the end.
Debating is such as nice sport for teenagers. I mean it gives us the confidence to speak in a world where voices need to be heard. I mean we are the future as many ‘wise’ people say and if we are able to build upon the ’standing up for yourself’ thing then the world would surely be a better place for all.
That’s all from me, I need to help get my little sister to sleep now.
